Psoriasis: It’s Symptoms and Treatments

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes the rapid build-up of skin cells resulting in scaling on the skin’s surface. Inflammation and redness around the scales is fairly common. Typical psoriatic scales are whitish-silver and develop in thick, red patches. Sometimes, these patches will crack and bleed. Psoriasis typically develops on joints, such elbows and knees. However, it may appear anywhere on the body, including the hands, feet, neck, scalp, and face. Those who suffer from Psoriasis have not always had reliable or long lasting treatments. Recently however, with the introduction of laser light therapy to reduce inflammation and scales, slow the growth of skin cells. This treatment for Psoriasis has been more effective in controlling the inflammation and redness associated with the skin condition. At Judith Crowell MD & Associates, we diagnose and treat psoriasis in the convenience and comfort of our state of the art medical facility.
